About this spread
This is the best browned butter spread I’ve ever had. Great for pumpkin or banana bread, or sandwiched between ginger or oatmeal cookies. Whip a stick of butter that has been browned then cooled with 8 ounces of cream cheese, and a sweetener of your choosing (this recipe calls for powdered sugar) and viola! You’ve got a spread that is something out of the ordinary.
If you’ve never browned butter before, you can use this tutorial with video from Simply Recipes, or follow the directions below the recipe.
The best browned butter spread will taste great on any sweet breads, pancakes, or increase powdered sugar to 2 cups and use as frosting for carrot cake, banana cake, pumpkin cake, or even chocolate cake.
Change the flavor by replacing the powdered sugar with:

- Add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
Browned Butter Spread
Ingredients
- 1 stick butter, browned (see directions)
- 8 ounces full fat cream cheese, softened to room temperature
- ¼-½ cup confectioners sugar
- 1 pinch kosher salt, if desired
Instructions
- Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until brown flecks appear. Be sure to watch it carefully, as it can go for browned to burnt quickly.
- Remove from heat and let cool until it solidifies.
- Beat the softened cream cheese with the butter until fluffy.
- Add the powdered sugar. Start with the 1/4 cup, then continue adding more until the desired sweetness is reached.
- If you like, you can add a pinch of kosher salt. It cuts the sweetness and adds a depth of flavor.
To make browned.butter:
