Browned Butter Spread
A delicious topping for banana or pumpkin bread, carrot cake, or for sandwich cookies
- 1 stick butter, browned (see directions)
- 8 ounces full fat cream cheese, softened to room temperature
- ¼-½ cup confectioners sugar
- 1 pinch kosher salt, if desired
Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until brown flecks appear. Be sure to watch it carefully, as it can go for browned to burnt quickly.
Remove from heat and let cool until it solidifies.
Beat the softened cream cheese with the butter until fluffy.
Add the powdered sugar. Start with the 1/4 cup, then continue adding more until the desired sweetness is reached.
If you like, you can add a pinch of kosher salt. It cuts the sweetness and adds a depth of flavor.
