Browned Butter Spread

A delicious topping for banana or pumpkin bread, carrot cake, or for sandwich cookies

Ingredients
  

  • 1 stick butter, browned (see directions)
  • 8 ounces full fat cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • ¼-½ cup confectioners sugar
  • 1 pinch kosher salt, if desired

Instructions
 

  • Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until brown flecks appear. Be sure to watch it carefully, as it can go for browned to burnt quickly.
  • Remove from heat and let cool until it solidifies.
  • Beat the softened cream cheese with the butter until fluffy.
  • Add the powdered sugar. Start with the 1/4 cup, then continue adding more until the desired sweetness is reached.
  • If you like, you can add a pinch of kosher salt. It cuts the sweetness and adds a depth of flavor.
