About this bread
Herb Bread with Basil and Cilantro is made with fresh herbs and tastes delicious. It tastes lovely with tomatoes and a good cheddar cheese. The original recipe uses basil, cilantro, and dill, but I stuck with basil and cilantro which complement each other, because I had them available and I didn’t feel like running out to the market. Use oregano, dill, rosemary, or a combination if you are adventurous and love those flavors.

Herb bread with basil and cilantro
Herb Bread with Basil and Cilantro is made with fresh herbs and tastes delicious. It's lovely with tomatoes and a good cheddar cheese.
Ingredients
- 4 cups white flour Use bread flour if you have it. Mine was made with plain white flour
- 2¼ teaspoons instant yeast
- 2 teaspoons salt
- ⅓ cup olive oil
- 1 ounce fresh basil
- 1 ounce cilantro
- 1¼ cups water
Instructions
- Combine flour, yeast, salt, olive oil, and the water in a large bowl.
- Mix until all the flour is absorbed and you have a soft dough that is just the tiniest bit sticky.
- If you have a KitchenAid mixer, mix dough with dough hook for 4 minutes then knead for 3 minutes until dough is slightly stretchy.If you don't have a mixer, knead for a good 6 minutes.
- Let dough rest 1 hour.
- Mix the chopped and de-stemmed herbs, then divide dough in half. Form into two disks and let rest 30 minutes on a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment.
- Preheat oven to 425° F.
- Bake 30 minutes, or until brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
